Tablehurst Farm

Organic Farm, Vegetable Garden, Farm Shop and Cafe

Tablehurst Community Farm is a social enterprise founded in the mid 1990s. The farm produces meat, poultry, vegetables and arable crops to biodynamic and organic standards. Nearly all Tablehurst’s produce is sold through the farm shop and cafe. Both are open six days a week. The shop also offers an array of other organic produce. The range including dairy products from our sister farm, Plaw Hatch, fresh bread, biodynamic eggs, and a many other foodstuffs.

A farm for the community

The farm is open to the public and you are welcome to walk around. You can visit the animals, see the farmers and gardeners at work, and enjoy the spectacular Ashdown Forest scenery. From March to October, our al fresco kitchen is open. It offers wood-fired pizzas every Friday lunchtime, and our renowned barbecue every Saturday lunchtime.

Over 600 individuals have paid £100 to become shareholders in our community Co-op which owns the the farm business. If you would like to join them, just click here.

Land ownership

The land at Tablehurst is held in trust by a local charity called  St Anthony’s Trust, and leased to the farm business. Tablehurst also now leases land from several other landowners, including The Biodynamic Land Trust.

A farm, but not just a farm…

Farming is not all that goes on at Tablehurst.  We train young farmers and gardeners, host a volunteer day every Wednesday, encourage school visits, and run a small care home for adults with learning disabilities. We also hold regular community events at Tablehurst. These include farm walks, lambing days every spring and a barn dance every September. There are also regular workshops  on various aspects of food and farming. Overall, the farm provides employment for over 30 people in the local area.

A house made of straw

Peter Brown, our founding farmer, supported by an amazing team of volunteers, is currently building a straw bale house at Tablehurst which will provide him with a home in his retirement. In the longer term, the house will add to the farm’s supply of homes for farm and garden workers. You can read a lot more about the house and how it is being constructed here.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to Tablehurst Farm!
