Tablehurst Farm is a community-owned social enterprise in Forest Row, East Sussex. We are looking for an interim manager for our farm shop for a period of up to six months, starting as soon as possible in January.
The farm and the shop
Tablehurst is a 500ha farm rearing cows, sheep, pigs and poultry and growing a wide range of vegetables. Our farm shop includes a substantial butchery selling our own meat, a vegetable stall, selling both our own and bought in vegetables, and display areas for a range of bought in refrigerated and dry goods. With rare exceptions, everything sold in the shop is certified organic. Shop turnover is between £20,000 and £25,000 per week, and the shop is staffed most days by a team of around five people (including butchers) plus the manager.
We are seeking an individual who can take overall responsibility for our shop operation, including:
- Budgetary control
- Customer care including meat deliveries by courier
- Supplier management and ordering
- Staff management
- Keeping the shop looking attractive at all times
- Food hygiene and general cleanliness
Working hours are 8.00am to 5.30pm five days a week. Regular Saturday working is a requirement, but we are not open on Sundays.
Salary will be commensurate with experience. We also offer a free two-course lunch every day and a substantial staff discount in the farm shop.
Our ideal candidate for this role will be aligned with our aims and values as a community-owned biodynamic farm and will have some experience of retail management, ideally in a fresh food retail environment. Some knowledge of meat retailing would be an advantage, and a willingness to work in close proximity to fresh meat is essential.
